A team of scientists from different institutions in Switzerland, Germany, South Africa, Peru, India, Azerbaijan, and the United States, just published in The New England Journal of Medicine verification of the efficacy of a new automated method to detect no more than two hours if a person is infected with M Mycobacteriutuberculosis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) causes tuberculosis. The method can also detect if the strain infecting the patient is resistant to rifampicin (RIF), one of the first-line antibiotics used against TB.

The “Xpert MTB / RIF” is as it’s called the machine that lets in no more than two hours to diagnose tuberculosis. To start the procedure, a sample of sputum of the patient and inactivated with a reagent specially formulated to kill bacteria, blend together and stabilize the components. The sample handling is minimal, just stirring the mixture, let it sit for fifteen minutes and shake again. In this mix, and safe, withdraw a small volume of 2 to 3 milliliters, or what would be a tablespoon, and put into a cartridge that contains all the reagents needed to perform the analysis. Smoking increases the risk of tuberculosis (TB) and a new study in Hong Kong suggested that exposure to secondhand smoke snuff hand also increases the chance of contracting the disease.

The team of Chi C. Leung, Wanchai Chest Clinic in Wanchai, compared the risk of TB in older women who lived with (at least) a smoker with the risk of women who lived in smoke-free homes.

The study included 15 486 non-smokers, between 65 and 74. All lived with their husbands and had attended one of 18 health centers for elderly in Hong Kong between 2000 and 2003. One in four lived with a smoker.

During follow-up, which lasted until late 2008 (or until death or diagnosis of TB), 117 women developed active TB and 69 of these cases were laboratory confirmed.

The team found that women who were exposed to secondhand smoke were 1.5 times more likely to develop active TB than women not living with a smoker, while the risk of culture-confirmed disease was 1, 7 times higher. Exposure to secondary smoking caused 14% of active TB cases and 18% of culture confirmed cases. In addition, women who lived with a smoker were much more likely to have some type of obstructive lung disease such as emphysema, or diabetes mellitus at baseline.

I’ve read from the newspaper about rosella fruit, rosella fruit. At first I was not sure about the fruit rosella so many benefits, knowing I have never seen let alone form rosella fruit trees. After I finished reading the paper I tried to find information on Rosella. One time I met with a friend who went to boarding one of the State University of Makassar city.

The information I get is almost the same as I have ever read in the daily newspaper. You may ask why I was so curiosity with fruit, my reason is simple because at that time I suffered from a chronic ulcer disease. After my rosella juice consumed with God’s permission I suffered the disease gradually recovered, and finally to this point I recovered from my ulcer disease.
