Metabolic Bone Disease in Iguanas
Metabolic bone disease is a term used to describe the different conditions that cause deformities of the bones of the iguanas. Iguanas in the wild do not suffer from this condition. Almost always caused by lack of maintenance by the owner.
Causes
This disease can be caused by one or more factors. The most common is the lack of calcium in the diet. If your iguana is not enough calcium, your body will start to leech from the bones. This leads to a significant weakening of leaving your iguana is very sensitive to breakage. Metabolic bone diseases can also arise if a poor calcium / phosphorus in the diet. Another common cause is not sufficiently exposed to UVA and UVB rays. Iguanas need the light of its own vitamin D, which is the production of calcium metabolism. Iodine in diet
Iodine is a mineral essential to the process of converting food into energy (metabolic process of cells). It is an important mineral for the proper functioning of the thyroid and the production of thyroid hormones.
Important sources of production of iodine
• Iodized salt (table salt) or sea salt (see note at end).
• Seafood (salmon, tuna, cod, haddock, pollock are good sources of iodine)
• The brown seaweed or kelp, marine plant is very common with high iodine content. If taken algae algae are best used with a uniform content and amencionada iodine as kelp (kombu) or hijiki.
